Disabled

People who are physically, mentally or emotionally disabled have the same right to self determination and to a social life as anybody else. However, often they are unable to manage daily life without help and are therefore at a disadvantage compared with non-disabled persons. This is why severely disabled people have special protection in their working environment.

If you or a family member is disabled you will receive a disabled identity card when you apply for it from the Office of Social Welfare (Sozialamt). The degree of disablement is shown on the card and it entitles you to concessions.

Disabled children and young people should go to school and do vocational training. They receive help to integrate from the Office of Social Welfare Minden-Lübbecke and from the employment office to get started in work.

In order to get unemployed severely disabled people back into work there is various help available from the employment office, pension or accident insurers and if the disabled person is receiving unemployment benefit II, from the Office proArbeit as the provider of basic support for job seekers. In individual cases help will be given for work reintegration by the local social welfare office.
